Once Upon a Time: Music and Storytelling

April 13 @ 7:30 pm 8:30 pm

The Milligan Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Kellie Brown, will present a spring concert highlighting music’s collaborative role in storytelling. This unique evening will feature music that either tells its own unique story or is composed as an exciting medium to retell stories from beloved books and fairy tales. Literature featured will include musical interpretations of C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia, J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In addition, the concert will include Aaron Copland’s music to Wilder’s Our Town and Dario Marianelli’s musical score for Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. The evening’s guest artist will be nationally-known professional storyteller Dr. Hannah Harvey, who will narrate several entertaining stories to orchestral accompaniment.
