Fall Chapel Update 9/4

As part of the Milligan Returns Home Fall COVID Plan, undergraduate chapel and convocation services will not occur in a typical manner.

However, that does not mean that campus ministry is not happening. We had chapel at State Line Drive-In last Thursday, and our next chapel will be next Thursday, September 10 at 8:30pm at the Commons. (Here is an explanation of the SFP Plan for the semester and the chapel schedule: https://www.milligan.edu/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/sfp-explanation-and-chapel-schedule-f20.pdf.)

Another important element of campus ministry will be student-led small groups. We will offer a timely study based on Dr. Tony Evans’ book Oneness Embraced: Reconciliation, the Kingdom, and How We Are Stronger Together. For each of the six sessions, students will view a video of Dr. Evans’ teaching and then share in Bible reading and discussion designed to enhance unity in God’s kingdom. For practical reasons, we are trying to create groups within dorms and athletic teams. We also intend to offer groups for commuters. So, if you are interested in leading or participating in one of these groups, please respond to this e-mail with the following information:

NAME, DORM AND ROOM NUMBER or COMMUTER, ATHLETIC TEAM or N/A, LEADER OR PARTICIPANT

If you indicate an interest in leading a group, we will contact you to provide information and training. We will provide materials (including a discussion guide for each session) and support for those willing to lead.

We will help students connect with a group and a leader. Students may also form their own groups, but we ask that you communicate with the campus minister’s office about this.

In the coming days and weeks, we will be making plans for other campus ministry programs and events like My2Words and Campus Conversations. Please watch for information about these important events.

Dr. Greer has given us this reminder in each of his COVID-related e-mails:

Take care of yourself and each other.

I think that’s pretty good spiritual advice for us as well. I hope our efforts this semester in campus ministry contribute to that goal.
