With the possibility of inclement weather moving into the Tri-Cities area late this weekend, we should all keep a careful eye on weather reports as we approach final exams week. At present, the College has not yet determined any delays or closures due to weather. While we are hopeful that we will be able to hold all final exams on Monday, Dec. 10 as scheduled, we should prepare now in case weather conditions force us to make some sort of scheduling change on that day. Please keep in mind that our pre-eminent concern in considering any schedule change will be the safety and well-being of Milligan students, faculty, and staff.
Should the College declare:
- a SNOW SCHEDULE (DELAY) on Monday, Dec. 10, faculty and students should follow the Snow Schedule listed below. Final exams will begin at 10:00 am instead of 8:00 am. Offices will open at 10 am.
- a SNOW DAY (CLOSURE) on Monday, Dec. 10, faculty and students should follow the Cancellation Plan listed below. All of the College’s regular academic operations will be suspended. All final exams scheduled for that day will be rescheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday evening as described below. Students who already have Tuesday or Wednesday evening classes (and the exams that go with them) should consult with their instructors immediately upon cancellation to work out any potential scheduling conflicts.
While we will do all we can to avoid either of these contingency plans, the weather may force us to invoke one of them. So it will be incumbent upon all students and faculty to plan ahead and to be flexible to ensure final exams are completed.
It is helpful to repeat what we have already announced about how any such delay or cancellation will be implemented:
When bad weather threatens, all faculty, staff, and students should monitor weather conditions as well as local media outlets. You may view a list of these media outlets in the Milligan College Student Handbook, available online at https://www.milligan.edu/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/milligan_student_handbook.pdf . On mornings when there will be a weather delay or cancellation, the College will typically notify local media by 6:00 am but most certainly by 6:30 am. Unforeseen changes in weather conditions during the work day may necessitate later decisions on rare occasions. Notification will also occur on the College web home page, on the Milligan Today page, the outbound recording on the College switchboard, and via the College’s Rave text alert system. If you haven’t already signed up for the Rave notification system, now would be a good time to do so. You may sign up at https://www.getrave.com/login/milligan .
