Milligan College, Tenn. (April 22, 2013) — The Milligan College track and field program grabbed three weekly awards as Shaka Andrew (Bristol, Va.), Haley Cox (Lake City, Tenn.) and Kevin Mowatt (Montego Bay, Jamaica) were honored for their performance at the 2013 AAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Monday by the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
“All of these athletes are deserving coming off an outstanding conference meet,” Head Coach Chris Layne said. “Our next step is to build from conference and work towards a few more national qualifiers.”
Andrew was named the men’s field athlete of the week. At the AAC Championship meet, Andrew captured the most outstanding male athlete of the meet honor. In the shot put, the senior set a new conference record with a toss of 14.65-meters. Andrew completed the sweep of the throwing events with a toss of 41.08 meters to win the discus throw.
Cox was named the women’s field athlete of the week for her performance at the AAC championship meet. The freshman won the discus throw with a lifetime personal best of 30.10-meters, and then finished in third in the shot put with a collegiate best mark of 10.08-meters.
Mowatt captured two individual conference titles to earn men’s track athlete of the week. In the 100-meter dash, Mowatt recorded a time of 11.07 to win, and then completed the double in the 400-meter with a time of 50.68.
During the 2013 AAC Track and Field Championships, the Buffaloes saw five athletes capture seven individual conference titles. In addition to Andrew’s honor as most outstanding male athlete, Meagan Wright (Florence, S.C.) was named the most outstanding female athlete of the AAC meet.
