Milligan faculty to present an evening of French music
The Milligan College music faculty will present a collaborative recital on Friday, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m. in Milligan’s Mary B. Martin Auditorium in Seeger Memorial Chapel. The recital is free and open to the public.“This recital has become an annual tradition that we enjoy presenting,” said Dr. Kellie Brown, chair of the music area at Milligan. “This year, we decided to celebrate the great music of French composers and to showcase the many styles and eras of their music.”The recital will feature eight performers from the music faculty, including Dr. Charlotte Anderson, Dr. Kellie Brown, Noah DeLong, Anne Elliott, Dr. David Runner, Tom Crawford, Cheryl Fitzgerald and Rick Simerly. The evening will include works for voice, as well as selections featuring the violin, cello, piano, organ and trombone.The repertoire will showcase a diverse array of French styles and composers. Featured selections include “L’invitation au Voyage” and “Sérénade Florentine” by Henri Duparc; “Sérénade” by Gounod; “Agnus Dei” by Bizet; “Elegie” by Massenet; and “Villanelle” and “L’Ille inconnue” from Berlioz’ “Les Nuits d’Eté.”
“Priere a Notre Dame & Toccata for Organ” by Leon Boellmann and “Serenade” by Chaminade for piano trio also will be featured.
