Milligan College, Tenn. (March 25, 2013) — The Milligan College dance team captured a diamond score and a first place overall finish in the pro-am division of the Encore Dance Competition at Furman University in Greenville, S.C., this past weekend. It was the first competition in the short history of the Milligan dance team.
“I am very proud of the way the girls competed in their first ever competition,” Head Coach Ronda Paulson said. “The hard work they have put in paid off, and they are certainly deserving of first place.”
Led by seniors Rachel Owens (Jonesborough, Tenn.) and Tori Ryans (Knoxville, Tenn.), the Buffaloes captured a Diamond level score, which was judged on the team’s technique, execution, musicality, quality and transitions. The team competed against three other squads, and came out on top in the pro-am division, which is the highest level of the Encore Dance Competitions.
“Going into this competition, the team set the goals to win the division,” Assistant Coach Jennifer Greenwell said. “The team, however, wanted to push themselves harder to accomplish more, and they certainly did. Words can’t express how excited and proud I am of this team.”
The Milligan dance team is in their third year of existent. They will wrap up their inaugural competition season April 4-7 at the Gatlinburg Encore Dance Competition in Gatlinburg, Tenn.
